FOR CONTROL OF BLUE - GREEN ALGAE IN LAKES, PONDS AND DRINKING WATER RESERVOIRS, IRRIGATION ETC.

General Information

GENERAL INFORMATION

PHYCOMYCIN SCP is an 85% active concentrated form of Sodium Carbonate Peroxyhydrate.

PHYCOMYCIN SCP is available in 50 lb. bags to the commercial water treatment industry.

PHYCOMYCIN SCP USE

- Is labeled as an algaecide for use in Lakes, Ponds, Drinking Water Reservoirs; Irrigation, Drainage, and Conveyance Ditches, Canals, Laterals; Estuaries, Bayous, Lagoons, Water Gardens and Water Features; Impounded Water and Waste Water; and Aquaculture.

- Lists Blue-Green Algae as the primary target species, but may be legally used to control other susceptible forms within labeled use sites providing dosage rates are not exceeded.

- Is used at dosages between 3.0 and 100 lbs per acre-foot for control of nuisance algae, providing concentrations between 0.3 and 10.2 ppm hydrogen peroxide, respectively.

PHYCOMYCIN SCP CHEMISTRY & MODE OF ACTION

- Is 100% soluble in water, rapidly dissociating to sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) molecules within minutes of granular application.

- Released H2O2, an oxidizer and actual active ingredient which appears to have both external and internal modes of action upon contact with algal cells depending upon their sensitivity and H2O2 concentration.

- H2O2 is considered a mild oxidizer and reacts in contact with organic materials (algae, detritus, etc), rapidly forming water molecules and releasing dissolved O2 into the water column. Requires quick delivery of the dissolved granule to the immediate vicinity of the algae due to short residual time in its active state.

PHYCOMYCIN SCP TOXICITY

- Has a low level of toxicity to fish, aquatic invertebrates and other non-target organisms under field use conditions due to its short residual time as an oxidizer and relatively low rates required to affect algae.

Does not restrict use of water for swimming, fishing, irrigation, stock watering, drinking or domestic use following treatment.

Limitations, Restrictions, and Exceptions

FOR CONTROL OF BLUE - GREEN ALGAE IN LAKES, PONDS AND DRINKING WATER RESERVOIRS, IRRIGATION ETC.

Apply 3.0 to 100 pounds per acre - foot (9.2 to 306.9 pounds/million gallons) of water (equivalent to 0.3 to 10.2 ppm hydrogen peroxide) by broadcasting or use of a mechanical spreader.

Note: Algae control is more easily achieved if treated soon after growth starts. Larger amounts of product may be needed to treat heavier blooms. As little as 2.5 pounds per acre - foot could be used for algaestatic treatment.

Precaution: Decaying algae can deplete dissolved oxygen which can lead to fish kill, if excessive. Apply with 8 to 10 hours of daylight remaining. Do not reapply within 48 hours. If treating a large lake or heavy bloom, treat 1/3 to 1/2 of the area and wait 2 to 3 days before treating remainder of water. Consult with the State agency with primary responsibility for regulating pesticides before applying to public waters to determine if a permit is needed.
