Pigweed, Smooth

Life cycle: Summer annual
Found in: Cropland, pastures, forages, landscapes and roadsides throughout the U.S.
General description: Erect plant that can grow up to 6 feet high.
Seedlings: Cotyledons are narrow and green to reddish. Hypocotyls are usually hairless and red.
True leaves: Alternate, ovate with smooth margins and hairy veins, margins and lower leaf surfaces.
Flowers and fruit: Flowers are small and green and occur in clusters. Fruit is a single-seeded bladder that is small, wrinkles when dry and splits open in the middle.
