Annual Ryegrass

Other names: Annual rye, Italian ryegrass
Life cycle: Winter annual
Found in: Small grains throughout the U.S.
General description: Plant can grow to 3 feet high with claw-like auricles and a spiky seedhead.
Seedlings: Leaves are rolled in the bud and shiny.
True leaves: Rolled in the bud with claw-like auricles in the collar. Can reach 8" long and are glossy on the underside.
Flowers and fruit: Seedhead is a spike with spikelets arranged alternately on the stem.
Main spike is 4" to 16" long.

Special note: Exhibits glyphosate resistance.
