Green cloverworm

Description

  • Adult: Dark brown or black moth with mottled wings and a wingspan of about 1¼".
  • Larvae: Pale green caterpillar with two white stripes running down each side. Thrashes violently when disturbed.
  • Eggs: Light green and hemispherical, measuring 0.5 mm in diameter. 
     

Timing of damage: VE to R7

Type of damage: Defoliation. Look for ragged holes in the leaves.

Scouting: Examine five plants in five locations of a field and estimate the percentage of defoliation.

Economic threshold: In V stages: 40% defoliation. R1 to R5: 15% defoliation. R6 to harvest: 25% 
defoliation and larvae are actively feeding.
