Description: Head is covered by black soot-like mold. Kernels are discolored weathered and the ends of the seed are black.

Timing/Conditions: Prefers warm wet weather during crop maturation.
Contributing factors: Delayed harvest and seed moisture above 20% combined with a relative
humidity above 90%.
Management practices: Plant resistant varieties and use chemical seed treatment.
