Bayer: 'Disappointed' at Monsanto's Response to Latest Offer

Headquarters of Bayer’s agricultural business (division Crop Science), Monheim, Germany.
It looks like Bayer’s sweetened deal for Monsanto isn’t sweet enough.

Bayer on Tuesday said that it was “disappointed” to hear that Monsanto would not be accepting the company’s latest offer of $125 per share, an increase from its May bid of $122 per share.

Monsanto said that it considers Bayer’s bid of $125 per share “financially inadequate” and says the $1.5 billion breakup fee—paid only if the deal fails due to antitrust regulators—is not enough to compensate for the risk.
